Along the Mornington Peninsula between Rye and Portsea, more than 16,000 properties were reliant on septic tanks and onsite treatment plants to manage household sewage. Due to ageing, failing and poorly maintained septic tanks there was evidence of waste polluting groundwater, waterways and the environment in the region.

To address this, Fulton Hogan (as part of the FHDB JV) were engaged for the design and construction of the Peninsula Early Connection Offer Transfer System, to build infrastructure to transfer sewage from Rye, Blairgowrie, Sorrento and Portsea (and other places) to Boneo Sewerage Treatment Plant and connect more than 16,000 properties to a new pressure sewerage network. The project included:

• Network / system functionality and design incorporation
• New transfer main and odour management systems
• Pressure sewer reticulation direct injection points
• New wet-well lift pump station
• Upgrade to existing pump stations
• Electrical and process works
