Fulton Hogan completed this 250 metre long bridge six months before the expected completion date, providing long-awaited travel improvements for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

The two-lane bridge is 10 metres high and 15 metres wide located between Kumara Junction and Greymouth on New Zealand’s South Island West Coast.

The project involved various components with 100,000 man hours going into:

• Building the new bridge
• Realigning a section of State Highway 6
• Building an overpass to take traffic over the railway line
• Creating a 2.5 metre wide off-road cycle and pedestrian link
• Constructing 1.5km of new road

New precasting construction methodology resulted in time efficiencies, increased safety and quality of delivery.

The new bridge offers increased safety, travel times and journey experiences for travellers. It replaces the old 220 metre single-lane bridge, which caused traffic congestion with vehicles having to queue to cross over.
