M80 Ring Road Upgrade
As Victoria’s second-tallest bridge, this complicated construction project involved a 3.2km corridor on the M80 Ring Road, widening it from two lanes to four in each direction, and extending to five lanes across the EJ Whitten Bridge.
The project scope included:
- The provision of extra traffic lanes in each direction between Sunshine Avenue and Calder Freeway interchanges, with realignment and widening of entry and exit ramps, along with the delivery of freeway ramp signal storage
- Widening and strengthening of the Maribyrnong River Bridges (also known as the EJ Whitten Bridge) and the south approach structures
- The provision of public safety barriers on both sides of the Maribyrnong River Bridge
- The construction of new retaining walls in the area between Sunshine Avenue and Calder Freeway
- The installation of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) which formed part of a fully integrated system along the M80 corridor.
