Staff And Students Save Snake Creek

Fulton Hogan staff joined Leeston Consolidated School students to restore and reshape Snake Creek, a tributary of the Silverstream River.

The creek is a popular trout spawning site and home to the endangered long fin eel, but becomes choked with water weeds on an annual basis.

The year six students designed a plan to prevent the weeds growing which included reshaping the banks so that plantings could be added. Our crew then got out and reshaped the bank to the students’ design.

South Island Resource and Sustainability Manager Don Chittock says it was good to work with a local school on a restoration project that would improve the Selwyn/Waimakariri River.
