An expanding city

Logan City is located between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia and is recognised as one of the largest, and fastest growing, cities in Australia.

Because of its continued expansion and transformation, Logan City has a diverse range of landscapes – from modern urban estates, through to bushland acreage.

In 2013, Fulton Hogan embarked on a new relationship with Queensland Motorways for the pavement rectification project. The project involved the overlay of new asphalt to 6 westbound lanes of the motorway, as well as the construction of an additional lane, where the Logan Motorway meets with the Gateway Motorway. Throughout the project, 25,000m³ of earthworks was carried out and 555,000 tonnes of asphalt was laid.

Maintaining air quality

Logan City’s maintenance program for unsealed roads typically involves grading the roads two or three times each year. Local residents had previously expressed concerns about dust from the roads affecting the air quality of these semi-rural suburbs.

To address Logan City Council’s concerns about air quality on urban unsealed roads, Fulton Hogan delivered an effective and efficient solution called DustBloc. The product was applied to Wyatt Road, with impressive results. Despite the road has weathering significant amounts of rainfall, it has out-performed similar roads in the region.

Traffic management was a priority for the project, as the work was carried out under heavy traffic conditions. Fulton Hogan carefully developed and implemented efficient traffic management strategies that maintained traffic flow and ensured the site safety of all personnel.
