Route K Pedestrian Overbridge
This project involved the supply and installation of a new 72m-long steel box truss pedestrian footbridge across Route K (Takitimu Drive) in Tauranga. The bridge connects cyclists and pedestrians as they travel between two suburbs, Bethlehem and Gate Pa.
The three-span bridge is made up of a steel truss and two pre-cast concrete backspans. The truss was delivered to site in two sections and spliced together onsite before the installation.
The project also included the supply and installation of a new 20m-long single span steel truss pedestrian footbridge over the Kopurererua Stream at the end of Wylie Street, construction of a shared pedestrian/cycle path and the replacement of an existing stormwater culvert.
The installation of the 72m-long footbridge required an overnight 13-hour operation and complete closure of the highway below (SH29 toll road on the western side of Tauranga), in part so that four cranes could be moved onto site in order to complete the works within the tight timeframe.
