New Brighton Pier
An 18 month long complex civil construction project was completed by Fulton Hogan in June 2018 with the repair and strengthening of New Brighton Pier.
The 300 metre pier needed all 17 of its support structures fixed following earthquake damage. With the harsh conditions of the open sea, Fulton Hogan applied innovative thinking towards site access and safety, scaffolding works and repair methodology.
The project started from the beach and worked out towards the end of the pier. Caissons, large watertight chambers, were installed around each pillar, creating a safe and dry environment for the sub-marine structural repairs.
Fulton Hogan’s work on the pier was recognised at the Canterbury Civil Contractors New Zealand (CCNZ) Awards winning the innovation and health and safety categories.
