As part of Victoria’s Level Crossing Removal Program (LCRP), Fulton Hogan (with Laing O’Rourke and AECOM, in an alliance with Public Transport Victoria, Metro Trains Melbourne and VicRoads) undertook the removal of two grade separations at Mountain Highway and Scoresby Road in Melbourne’s outer east. A new station precinct, with significant urban design features, was also constructed.

Key objectives included improving road safety and increasing traffic flow, improving non-vehicular accessibility by reducing Mountain Highway to two lanes and constructing a road bike lane in each direction, as well as a walking path and enhancing urban design in Bayswater and better connecting the station precinct with local shops and amenities.

Works were delivered ahead of program, with the new rail alignment opened five days ahead of original schedule, and within budget.
