Fulton overlaid the runways and taxiways at RAAF Base Pearce and RAAF Base Gin Gin north of Perth for the Department of Defence. The project included the removal of the existing runway surface, supply, placement and finishing of over 50,000 tonnes of airport quality asphalt and re-linemarking of all affected pavements. The work also included the treatment of failed areas of pavement prior to overlaying and required coordination with a separate airfield lighting contractor who was working at the RAAF bases as the same time.  

To provide the highest sustainability outcomes for the project, multigrade bitumen binder was sourced from Fulton Hogan’s Brisbane based operations.  By utilising our fleet of bitumen containers to transport the product to site by rail we were able to provide a cost saving to the customer, while providing certainty around supply and reducing carbon emissions when compared to road transport.
