Hunua 4

The Fulton Hogan John Holland Joint Venture (FHJHJV) is constructing a new watermain called Hunua 4, for the city of Auckland and client Watercare Services. The 28km watermain will mostly be laid under the road, but will also cross streams, private property and rural land.

The FHJHJV team have successfully laid over 13km of watermain by open trenching the road carriageway through residential areas. They have done this while developing a good relationship with the communities surrounding the new pipeline.

Working in the middle of busy communities can be challenging at the best of times but the Hunua 4 team have excelled at keeping the community updated with upcoming work, providing honest and open communication and great traffic management.

During the project, the team constructed a section of pipeline within 200m of a secondary school, a primary school, a childcare centre and a block of shops in the suburb of Mangere.

In the midst of these works, Mountain View Primary School held a special dawn ceremony attended by the Governor-General, Lt Gen the Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae. To ensure the event ran smoothly, the FHJHJV team worked to ensure traffic management two FHJH JV traffic management team members, STMS Tumanako (Tu) Wikotu and Eugene Toataua, started work well ahead of their normal schedule to assist. They did such a good job coordinating traffic around the worksite that the Governor-General went out of his way to say thank you to the FHJHJV team for their efforts.
