Fulton Hogan was presented with the Hirepool Construction Excellence Award for the Christchurch Southern Motorway (CSM) Stage 1 project.

The annual Hirepool Construction Awards recognises excellence in the New Zealand construction industry. This year, for the first time, the awards were run by both the New Zealand Contractors’ Federation (NZCF) and Roading New Zealand.

Delivered ahead of schedule and on budget, the $140m NZTA project was the first ‘Roads of National Significance’ to be built in the South Island.

The four-lane median-separated motorway, between Collins Street and Halswell Junction Road in Christchurch, opened to traffic in December 2012. The motorway provides a safer, more efficient and reliable route between the Central City, Lyttelton Port and southwest Christchurch.

It was hailed by judges as having “exemplified construction excellence in all respects.”

CSM Project Director Justin McDowell says the team is proud to have won another construction excellence award for a challenging project.

“The project was delivered within a period of ongoing major aftershocks in Christchurch and a great recognition for the whole young project team.” he said.

Two other Fulton Hogan projects were also finalists in this category: Waikato Expressway Te Rapa Section, and Tekapo Canal.
