Timaru District Road Network Operations & Maintenance – Delivering Reliable Roading Solutions Across South Canterbury
Fulton Hogan has proudly partnered with Timaru District Council for over 13 years across three contract iterations, delivering high-quality road maintenance and renewals across a diverse and expansive network. Our current contract (2021–2026) covers 1,101km of sealed and 750km of unsealed roads, with an annual programme valued at approx. $8 million.
Our local team, deeply embedded in the South Canterbury community, brings unmatched network knowledge and a multi-skilled approach to ensure timely, efficient, and safe delivery of services. We operate from a foundation of trust and collaboration with Council, consistently delivering within ±2% of budget year-on-year.
Scope of Services:
- Sealed and unsealed pavement maintenance.
- Sealed pavement renewals.
- Vegetation control and winter maintenance.
- Traffic services and emergency response.
- Drainage, bridge maintenance, and street cleaning.
- Footpath and carpark maintenance and reseals.
- Minor improvements and asset management support.
We also manage capital surfacing and footpath works under the same contract team, integrating renewals with maintenance to maximise value and minimise disruption.
Innovation & Performance.
Our delivery is supported by RAMM, Pocket RAMM, and Archimedes® dashboards, providing real-time visibility and performance tracking. We operate a single, flexible programme that integrates reactive, routine, and renewal works, with around 30% reactive and 70% planned activities.
We’ve proactively responded to weather events and logging impacts, prioritising network resilience and optimising rehabilitation timing. Our Contract Governance Group ensures continuous improvement and alignment with Council goals.
Safety & Environmental Leadership.
- Comprehensive H&S systems with daily risk reviews.
- Envirowise environmental training for all staff.
- Global resource consent and mitigation protocols.
- Site-specific TMPs and regular traffic management audits.
Community & Collaboration.
Our strong relationships with Council staff, local stakeholders, and subcontractors—such as Delta and WasteCo—enable us to deliver a third of annual works through trusted partners. We’re
a founding member of the South Canterbury Travel Extractors Group, sharing best practices across the region.
