Lincoln Town Centre Carparks: Delivering Excellence for Selwyn District Council
Client: Selwyn District Council
Duration: October 2022 – June 2023
Scope of Works:
Fulton Hogan is proud to announce the successful completion of the Lincoln Town Centre Carparks project for Selwyn District Council. This transformative initiative has delivered two new carparks—Northern (Lyttelton Street) and Southern (Gerald Street)—as part of the ongoing upgrades to Lincoln’s vibrant town centre.
Collaboration and Community
From the outset, our team worked proactively with the Council’s engineering representatives and local stakeholders to resolve property and design challenges, ensuring smooth progress and minimal disruption. By maintaining open communication and building strong relationships, we were able to meet stakeholder expectations and deliver a project that truly benefits the community.
Sustainable Solutions and Innovation
Sustainability was at the heart of this project. Fulton Hogan introduced recycled cement-treated basecourse, providing an environmental offset and reducing material use without compromising quality. The team also incorporated a high-reclaimed asphalt product, achieving carbon reductions and delivering a superior, low-maintenance pavement solution. When proprietary stormwater systems were unavailable, our subcontractor Aaron Webb Builders hand-formed insitu rain gardens, ensuring compliance and keeping the project on track.
Overcoming Challenges
A very wet winter posed significant challenges, but our team adapted by modifying construction staging and work sequences to maintain productivity. Property and design issues were resolved expediently and “on the fly,” demonstrating our commitment to problem-solving and project delivery. Throughout, continuous access for businesses and residents was maintained through flexible working hours, clear signage, and proactive communication.
Specialist Subcontractors
The project’s success was made possible by the expertise of our specialist subcontractors:
• ProTranz for earthworks
• The PlantPeople for landscaping
• Aaron Webb Builders for fencing and rain gardens
• Connectics for lighting design, procurement, and installation
Positive Stakeholder Feedback
We are delighted to have received positive feedback from Selwyn District Council and the local community for our proactive communication, minimal disruption, and high-quality finished works. The strong rapport built with stakeholders has already benefited future works in the area.
Delivering on Our Promise
All project deliverables were met or exceeded, with both carparks completed to specification and handed over to the client as planned. The collaborative approach and outstanding performance of our team and subcontractors ensured the final outcome closely matched the original scope and client expectations.
