Fulton Hogan’s Australian Pavements Research and Development team has made significant strides in sustainable road construction by trialling an enhanced version of the emulsion-stabilised road base product, RAP2(ES). The team, led by Dr Laszlo Petho, Pavements Manager and Khoa Vo, National Technical Manager – Binders, successfully developed RAP2(ES)R, with the ‘R’ signifying rapid-setting. The trial revealed that the curing time for this road base can be reduced to just 24 hours, substantially faster than the traditional week-long process, without compromising durability, even under adverse weather conditions.
RAP2(ES)R utilises 100% reclaimed asphalt pavement, reinforcing Fulton Hogan’s commitment to sustainable practices by reducing dependence on virgin materials and lowering its carbon footprint. The rapid-setting nature of the product also enhances efficiency across project sites and streamlines operations in bitumen emulsion plants, further strengthening Fulton Hogan’s leadership in developing innovative and environmentally responsible products for the infrastructure sector.
