Delivering Excellence: CCC Colombo / Dyers Project Wraps Up with Strong Results
Client: Christchurch City Council (CCC)
Duration: 2024
Scope of Works:
Fulton Hogan’s CCC Colombo / Dyers Project marks another milestone in our commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure solutions across the Canterbury region.
Delivered as part of the Christchurch City Council’s CRAF Panel, the project focused on safety improvements at the Colombo St / Dyers Pass Rd intersection. Works included enlarging the existing roundabout, new kerb alignments, raised safety platforms, stormwater upgrades, service relocations, footpath and cycleway improvements, road pavement reconstruction and surfacing, new signage and road markings, and landscaping/tree protection. All works were completed to CCC CSS and IDS standards, with careful coordination with utility authorities and ongoing stakeholder engagement.
Our Approach:
• Proactive stakeholder management ensured access and parking for local businesses (such as Protocol Bar) and residents throughout construction.
• Traffic flow was maintained through this complex intersection, with effective traffic management at peak times and night works scheduled to minimise disruption.
• Early and ongoing communication, including early warning letters, kept residents and businesses informed.
• Resource management was optimised to minimise delays and residential disruption, especially during emergency third-party utility works, for which our team continued to manage traffic management for the third party.
• Improvements were made to stakeholder accessways, including enhanced access for Protocol Bar and nearby residents.
Outcomes:
• All major elements were delivered as scoped, with only very minor defects to be closed out at completion.
• The project was substantially delivered as planned, with strong resource management and collaboration throughout.
• A high standard of work was noted by the council, especially in drainage.
• No environmental incidents occurred; the site was well prepared for weather events.
• Positive feedback was received from the council, with appreciation for the collaborative approach and the quality of the finished work.
• Pedestrian and cyclist stakeholders provided positive feedback regarding improved access and safety.
• The project was described by the council as “very successful and rewarding,” with strong teamwork contributing to smooth delivery.
This success adds to Fulton Hogan’s growing portfolio of relevant experience in the urban safety upgrade sector, reinforcing our readiness for future opportunities across the Canterbury region.
