Taxiway Zulu
The Taxiway Zulu Project was first awarded in 2019 in conjunction with the Northern Access Road Project.
Works will be delivered in three phases and it will include components such as a new taxiway network with a total of 270,000-SQM of paved area; master-grading of apron areas associated with the gates expansion project at T2; and associated services and utilities – including drainage and power – that will support airport development.
Due to COVID-19, the project was paused prior to completion with works resuming as Taxiway Zulu 2.0 in early 2024.
Since works have renewed, the Taxiway Zulu 2.0 Project has completed the construction and opening of Taxiway Delta with the first plane making it’s way down the taxiway on 8 April 2025.
Works continue to realign Taxiway Echo in the northern precinct of Melbourne Airport.
The project will include the following works:
- Demolishing the existing taxiway and associated infrastructure
- Excavating 250,000m3 of material
- Placing 100,000t of crushed rock
- Upgrading the Airfield Ground Lighting
- Placing 37,000m3 of new concrete taxiway pavement
- Constructing a new Airfield Lighting Equipment Room
- Mobilising an Onsite Concrete Batching Plant.
“The original Zulu project commenced in 2019 and was put into suspension due to COVID in 2022. We have worked closely with APAM to ensure that we recommence this project and continue the legacy that was started with the original Zulu project.” – Adrian Barbagallo, Project Manager.
