Fulton Hogan

Longreach asphalt production and laying

Fulton Hogan creates, connects and cares for communities; building the roads, ports, airports, infrastructure and property which brings people together. We build communities literally from the ground up, starting with our own network of quarries, complemented by our asphalt, emulsion and pre-cast plants.

Fulton Hogan’s asphalt plant in Longreach services a vast outback area reliant on road transport to bring in provisions for its inhabitants and distribute its industrial and agricultural produce. Our asphalt production plant uses innovative technology to create surfaces which can withstand the high temperatures prevalent in the region, and our asphalt laying teams work through these hot weather conditions to build and maintain a network of local roads used by Longreach’s farmers and foresters.

Located on the Landsborough Highway which links Rockhampton 700 kilometres to the east to Mount Isa and the Stuart Highway near Tennant Creek, Longreach is the largest town in Queensland’s far west region. Longreach generates 40% of Queensland’s cattle grazing and almost 15% of the state’s total agricultural output. Fulton Hogan’s expertise in asphalt production and laying is vital in supporting access routes for these industries spread over wide, remote areas.

The Longreach region is developing rapidly, with construction and primary industry booming. Fulton Hogan’s asphalt production expertise will be ever more important in the coming years as the Central West Regional Plan is implemented. This 20 year project will require high volumes of asphalt laying as one of its central mission statements is the continual improvement in the quality and safety of the road network. Another key component of the plan is to develop the economy while protecting the environment, and Fulton Hogan use the most advanced ‘green’ methods in their asphalt production. These low omission and energy conservation measures mean we will be able to continue to improve and maintain the transport infrastructure through the life of the plan and beyond, with asphalt production and laying at the heart of the development of the Longreach region.
