Meet the team
Dave Faulkner, Chairman
Dave brings steady hands to the Board, with 24 years’ service to Fulton Hogan, including 9 years as the Company’s Managing Director between 2000 and 2009.
Since retiring in December 2009, he has been appointed to directorships of number of companies including Port Otago Ltd Brightwater Engineering, Goughs and Solar City. In 2016 he re-joined the Fulton Hogan Board and was subsequently appointed as Chairman. He holds a non-executive director of Fulton Hogan Ltd and its key subsidiaries.
Dave’s qualifications include a BSc in Mathematics from Victoria University, as well as a BE in Civil Engineering from Canterbury University.
Nick Miller, Executive Director
Nick was Managing Director of Fulton Hogan Ltd and its subsidiary companies from January 2010 until September 2017. He remains as an Executive Director of Fulton Hogan until the end of October 2017.
Nick also holds a number of external directorships including Orion New Zealand Limited and Southbase Construction, and was formerly a director of the Australian Constructions Association.
Nick was formerly the Chief Executive of Fulton Hogan Pty Ltd and he has over 20 years’ experience in various civil engineering and management roles, including as Chief Executive of Isaac Construction.
Nick’s qualifications include a BE in Civil Engineering (Hons) from Canterbury University and a New Zealand Certificate of Engineering. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers New Zealand and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Steve Smith, Director
Steve’s current directorships include Chairman of Spanbild Holdings Limited, Director of Fulton Hogan Limited, Fulton Hogan Australia, Fulton Hogan Construction Pty Ltd, Fulton Hogan Industries Pty Ltd and Fulton Hogan Quarries Pty Ltd, OCG Consulting Limited, Life Pharmacy Limited, Hellaby Holdings Limited, Rimu SA and Manuka SA (both in Chile) and the Auckland City Zoo Board.
Steve was a Managing Director, Unison Capital Advisors 2004 Limited – a private company specialising in strategic, corporate finance and investment management, including professional directorship services. He has also held the position of Director and Acting CEO Pacific Retail Group (March 2004 – August 2005). Chairman of Bendon, Pacific Retail Finance and Living and Giving (until January 2006). Partner, Pricewaterhouse Coopers (1996-2003) and Director (1989-1996), specialising in Corporate Finance.
Greg Horton, Director
Greg was appointed to the Fulton Hogan Boards in September 2010 as an independent director of Fulton Hogan Limited, Fulton Hogan Australia, Fulton Hogan Construction Pty Ltd, Fulton Hogan Industries Pty Ltd and Fulton Hogan Quarries Pty Ltd.
He has also been a Director of Harmos Horton Luks Limited since 2003, the legal firm, independent trustee and directors of the Farmer Family Trusts and Company, director of Baycorp New Zealand (debt collection). Trustee of the Thanksgiving Foundation and Endeavour Foundation – two private philanthropic trusts and board members of First Tee of New Zealand for underprivileged children.Greg is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, admitted to the practice in the State of New York.
Bob Fulton, Director
Bob is the Director of Investments and Associates and a Director of Fulton Hogan Ltd, Fulton Hogan Construction Pty Ltd, Fulton Hogan Industries Pty Ltd, Horokiwi Quarries Ltd, Allied FH Ltd, WFH Properties Ltd and Rangititikei Aggregates Ltd. In these roles he acts as a representative of the Fulton cornerstone shareholders.
Bob has held various roles in Fulton Hogan Ltd from 1991 to the present day, with previous engineering positions in Britain and with a Local Authority. His specialities include strategic planning, financial and business management, project management and review, contractual relationships partnering and organisation leadership. He maintains the national strategic overview of Fulton Hogan’s quarrying and bitumen surfacing activities.
Rachel Farrant, Director
Rachel was appointed a Director of Fulton Hogan Ltd, Fulton Hogan Australia, Fulton Hogan Construction Pty Ltd, Fulton Hogan Industries Pty Ltd and Fulton Hogan Quarries Pty Ltd in 2011. She has over 15 years’ experience in chartered accountancy and business advisory and a BCom, PGDip in Finance and Management, CA (NZICA).
Hanlin Johnstone, Director
Hanlin is a Director of Fulton Hogan Limited, Fulton Hogan Australia, Fulton Hogan Construction Pty Ltd, Fulton Hogan Industries Pty Ltd and Fulton Hogan Quarries Pty Ltd, Christchurch International Airport, vBase, Christchurch Engine Centre (Pratt and Whitney), Chairman Dunedin Casinos and AMI Stadium.
Hanlin has a BE in Civil Engineering and his business interests include manufacturing, property ownership, developments and being a representative of the Hogan cornerstone shareholders.
Peter Brecht, Director
Peter was appointed to the Fulton Hogan board in November 2013 as an independent director of Fulton Hogan Limited, Fulton Hogan Australia, Fulton Hogan Construction Pty Ltd, Fulton Hogan Industries Pty Ltd and Fulton Hogan Quarries Pty Ltd.
Peter has over 35 years’ experience in the civil engineering sector, with more than 15 years’ experience in the Managing Director or Chief Executive roles on some of the largest construction companies in Australia including Infrastructure Australia, Valemus Group and Abigroup. Peter has a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) and is also a member of the Institute of Company Directors.
Richard Olliver, Director
Appointed to the Fulton Hogan Board in February 2017 as an independent director, Richard has extensive experience in taxation, business development and investment banking.
Richard specialised in taxation with Coopers & Lybrand and then joined the business development team of Carter Holt Harvey Limited, where his role included the acquisition and divestment of businesses. Richard also worked with Australia’s leading investment bank – Macquarie Bank – in its Wellington, Sydney and London offices prior to returning to New Zealand in 2005. Since then, Richard has provided consultancy services to a range of businesses.
Richard has a Bachelor of Law LLB (Canterbury, New Zealand) and Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and Accounting majors) (Canterbury, New Zealand).
Graeme Tapp, Company Secretary
Graeme was appointed as Company Secretary of Fulton Hogan Ltd in December 2016, Horokiwi Quarries Ltd in June 2016 and is also a Director of Fulton Hogan Land Development. In his role as Company Secretary, Graeme oversees the Group governance, statutory compliance and investor relations functions. He also has responsibilities providing commercial support to the Group Investments and Associates streams including Fiji operations.
Graeme has held a number of senior finance roles within the New Zealand business over the past 15 years and has over 30 years of finance experience with previous roles including Unilever Group, Mitsubishi Electric and Fuelquip Services Ltd. Graeme has a BCom(Hons) in Accounting and Finance, is a Chartered Accountant (CA) and an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries Inc (ACIS).
