Fulton Hogan in Townsville

Fulton Hogan creates, connects and cares for communities; building the roads, ports, airports, infrastructure and property which brings people together. We build communities literally from the ground up, starting with our own network of quarries, complemented by our asphalt, emulsion and pre-cast plants.

The growth of Townsville and the rest of North Queensland has created a burgeoning market for Fulton Hogan’s asphalt production operations. Fulton Hogan’s asphalt laying teams play an important part in many of the major infrastructure projects which are revitalizing North Queensland. The upgrade of Moranbah airport illustrated our ability to complete major projects on schedule, despite its remote location and the harsh climate.

Asphalt production and laying in Townsville

Located on the shore of Cleveland Bay, Townsville is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef as well as nearby rainforest, outback and wetland habitats. This unique tropical region demands the highest environmental standards. At Fulton Hogan, we use the most up-to-date green technologies available to minimise the environmental impact of our asphalt production processes.

Our asphalt production and laying services provide Townsville with high quality asphalt designed to perform under extremely challenging conditions. As a regional freight and transport hub, Townsville’s roads must withstand regular flooding as well as seasonal cyclones. Add to that the demands of heavy vehicles like the road trains and B-doubles that transport sugar and mining products from North Queensland to the Port of Townsville for export, and it is essential that Fulton Hogan’s asphalt products and services are of superior quality.

Fulton Hogan’s asphalt production plant is appropriately situated alongside the Bruce Highway, the 1700-kilometre road that links Brisbane with Far North Queensland. Major roads like the Bruce and the Flinders Highway – which starts in Townsville and travels west through Charters Towers all the way to the Northern Territory border – are the lifeblood of this region.

Townsville is also an increasingly important industrial region. The Development Scheme for the Townsville State Development Area was updated in July this year – among its primary objectives are for Townsville to be the preferred location in North Queensland for the establishment of industrial development, and to encourage the coordination of infrastructure projects.

With urban development planned for Rocky Springs, the Upper Ross, the Bohle Plains and the Northern Beaches, Townsville’s road network is integral to the expansion of this major regional city. Fulton Hogan’s asphalt production and laying team have the local knowledge, experience and expertise to build and maintain these major roads to the highest possible standard.

Beyond Townsville’s city boundaries, Fulton Hogan’s spray seal products are invaluable for waterproofing and rehabilitating North Queensland’s rural road network. Our crews work across rural and remote locations in these sometimes harsh and unforgiving regions, extending the life of these vital thoroughfares and reducing long-term maintenance costs.

Emulsion binders in Townsville

Townsville is home to Fulton Hogan’s North Queensland emulsion manufacturing plant. It produces both cationic and anionic emulsions that create high quality heavy grade emulsions through to polymer modified binders for sealing minor roads. The use of emulsion binders allow surfaces to be weather-resistant immediately as they are applied, as opposed to standard bitumen which is vulnerable to wash-out if rainfall occurs soon after laying, and they also reduce hydrocarbon pollution of the atmosphere and waterways.
