Fulton Hogan provides a nationwide service to farmers that will prevent
concrete pavement from becoming slippery, causing possible injury to livestock.
Concrete pavement is used for milking holding pens and races on farms throughout New Zealand. Over a period of time, the concrete will become smooth and slippery. The danger then arises that animals may fall and be seriously injured.
Cross Hatch Grooving creates a safe environment for animals. Its benefits include:
- Reducing injuries caused by stock slipping and falling
- Lessening stress to animals, which in turn improves milk productivity
- Can be done on existing concrete surfaces without upsetting the normal milking routine
- Lasts forever - unlike many other treatments, there is no need to repeat the process
- Does not weaken or damage the existing surface
- Helps drain shallow pavement areas where ponding occurs
- Cleaning up has become much quicker and easier
- Reducing risk of injury where there is a problem with rye grass staggers
The idea of cutting grooves in concrete to prevent livestock from slipping is not new, but only recently has there been a machine designed specifically for this purpose, allowing for a faster, more accurate solution. For best results, grooves are cut 6mm deep, 10mm wide and at 75mm centres.
