Utilities

Fulton Hogan has developed considerable experience in the laying of new services and re-routing of existing services of all types.  This expertise was gained as a consequence of most roading and many civil projects requiring utility relocation and replacement to construct the project.  Utilities are the lifeblood of the surrounding communities and stakeholders and great care needs to be taken to minimise any disruption to these services.

Using the experience gained in service relocation, it was a natural progression to utility contracts of larger scale and complexity.  Contracts such as large diameter HDPE pipelines, large diameter stormwater pipes in urban areas, and undergrounding of overhead powerlines have all been undertaken by Fulton Hogan.  These projects have benefited from the complementary service of traffic control that Fulton Hogan is able to offer, providing our Clients with low risk project execution and minimum complaints from affected ratepayers.

Some larger projects recently undertaken include:

  • Hibiscus Coast HDPE sewer main – 26km of up to 600mm diameter HDPE pipe laid in urban street environment

  • Orakei Catchment Stormwater Upgrade Project in Remuera. Total of 500m of installed using pipe jacking, directional drilling and open cut trenching techniques in urban streets at average depth of 4.5m.

  • Parade stormwater project – 1km of 1650mm to 2000mm diameter concrete stormwater pipe laid in urban streets at average depth of 4.5m.

  • Vector Rosebank and Glen Innes OHUG – Conversion of over 50km of overhead power and Telecom communication cables into newly installed underground network. Project included installing new transformers and switching gear, replacement and diversion of water pipes and replacement of street furniture and footpaths in urban streets. In total over 1700 residential and industrial properties were converted to the new network on both projects.

  • Mt Eden water pipeline – replacement of over 8km of 600mm diameter CLS water pipe in urban streets and major roads.
