Fulton Hogan may be less well known for its ability to construct complex civil works for industrial clients compared with its reputation for roading, but it is a proven competency.
These projects require fast track construction with great accuracy to accommodate the later structural steel and mechanical contractors. The projects’ success depends on the performance of the civil contractor!
Possibly the most challenging projects are those for the oil and gas industry where extremely high standards of safety and fast track construction restrict the work to only the leading contractors.
It was Fulton Hogan’s reputation for safety and quality that saw it selected as the primary civil contractor for the Kupe gas field onshore works near New Plymouth for Origin Energy. Fulton Hogan worked with the project team to deliver the Civil work in a collaborative way. We adapted to the requirements of the mechanical contractors to maintain flexibility and keep the project on schedule.
Other examples of industrial civil work include:
- Glenbrook Steel Mill, Waiuku – Construction of heavy duty concrete roads to carry transporters carrying molten slag to tip heaps. These 500mm thick roads had to be built to tight tolerances to avoid slopping of molten slag during travel. Work took place around an operational smelter.
- Shell Tank farm, Wynyard Wharf Auckland – Construction of bund walls and pipe foundations within an operating tank farm.
- Omata Tank Farm, New Plymouth
