Fulton Hogan has constructed an impressive array of bridges and structures, especially in the last five years, as a result of the rapid growth in motorway projects in New Zealand and the increasing investment in rail infrastructure.
Our portfolio ranges from small, simple bridges to technically challenging ones, such as the Ormiston Road Cable Stay Bridge in Manukau and the Otanerua Viaduct Bridge as part of the Northern Gateway Alliance project near Orewa.
As with most of our civil projects, we can carry out all elements of bridge construction, including piling and prestressed concrete beams. This guarantees our Clients a seamless process during which they deal with one party and avoid the potential for interface issues. The buck stops with us!
We look for innovative ways to build all bridges and structures to provide better value for money to the client while maintaining our competitiveness. Our reputation has been built on this approach, which we continually strive to enhance.
Examples of such innovation include;
- Shelley Beach 400 tonne Extension, Auckland – Cutting a bridge in half and sliding the bridge deck 10m onto a new pier and abutment to allow the construction of a bus lane underneath. All construction was carried out over the live SH1 motorway carrying over 100,000 vehicles per day.
- Candy’s Bend Rockfall Structure – The construction of concrete structures, bridges and roading. Cantilevered half bridging length of 48m secured by 18m long rock anchors plus surface protection shelter 60m long of precast concrete frame and stressed road slab. All work carried out on a live traffic.
- Ormiston Road Cable Stay Bridge – constructing two tapered cylindrical reinforced concrete pylons 28m high and temporarily supporting them until cables were installed.
