R&D for the edge in technical excellence
Fulton Hogan embraces excellence in technical developments. In both Australia and New Zealand, our formal and informal research and development (R&D) activities deliver technical advances and innovations across all our areas of operation.
We also work with roading authorities in these countries, to ensure that our R&D facilities develop applications and products that meet the varying technical and environmental requirements across Australian and New Zealand jurisdictions.
Fulton Hogan’s R&D effort harnesses a number of initiatives. Firstly, there are our laboratories: five NATA-accredited facilities in Australia and six IANZ-registered operations in New Zealand. Equipped with the very latest testing equipment, these assess a range of properties, materials and solutions. They also test the applicability of new ideas and solutions developed ‘at the coal face’ on Fulton Hogan’s project sites.
Our R&D also provides a platform to develop and introduce state of the art technology into New Zealand and Australia. Examples include:
- Fulton Hogan now offers a green asphalt alternative, Warm Mix Asphalt, that is available in Queensland and will soon be available in Victoria
- Fulton Hogan’s high production asphalt plant in Dandenong, Victoria, using world-leading technology to calibrate asphalt mixes within minutes and deliver customers a superior product across all stages of a project
- the Ultra High Pressure Watercutter, designed in New Zealand and improved for Australian conditions. It is used in both countries to achieve high quality results in removing excess bitumen and restoring the microtexture of polished aggregates and chips in road surfacing
- the Multispray® unit, which sprays bitumen at different application rates across the width of a road, to eliminate road flushing, reduce wear and improve skid resistance
